Para Table Tennis

Introduction
Table tennis is a sport event entailing multiple techniques, speed and agility. Para table tennis, suitable for people with different types of impairment, has been a Paralympic sport since the first Paralympic Games held in Rome in 1960.
 
Classification
With a total of 11 classes, athletes are mainly categorized into threewheelchair (TT1-TT5), standing (TT6-TT10) and intellectually impaired (TT11). TT1 and TT6 athletes are with the highest level of impairment in their respective groups.
 
Competition
The rules of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) also apply to Para table tennis competitions with modifications made to facilitate the wheelchair class. For examples:
  • In singles event, the ball will be re-served if it leaves the receiver’s court after touching it by either of its sidelines.
  • After hitting the ball, the athlete can make use of the table to resume playing position and for balance; but before that, athlete cannot touch the table or use it as a supporter.
