 The 8th Preliminary Round of the 7th Hong Kong Games Wheelchair Basketball Challenge Took Place
The 8th preliminary round of the 7th Hong Kong Games Wheelchair Basketball Challenge completed on 20 April at the Tseung Kwan O Sports Centre. Island West and New Territories East remained at the top spot, followed by Kowloon West, after taking a victory, and Island East. New Territories West came up against Kowloon West in the first game. New Territories West scored 2-point only with a nervous start and trailed Kowloon West 2-14 after the first quarter. They stabilized themselves in the second quarter but failed to reverse the scoreline. Kowloon West took the advantage to increase their lead and won the game 33-19. The second game was a repeat of their matchup in the first round robin in which Kowloon East lost to Island West by a wide margin. They received great offensive output from CHUNG Cheuk Ting and IP Kim Fung of Island West with a total of 26-point in the first half and trailed 12-38. Island West remained consistent throughout the second half and took a 65-26 win. In the last thrilling game against Island East, New Territories East took control of the game early on pushing out to a 13-7 lead in the first quarter. Poon Hai, a key contributor from Island East, got the And-1 and took back the lead. He assisted his team to win the second quarter, 30-23 with a few more shots and extended to a 43-31 lead in the third quarter. New Territories East took the initiative to come back and the lead exchanged hands in the final 10 minutes. The game was tied 49-49 with just 39 seconds remaining and it was New Territories East’s CHAN Wing Kin to hit the game-winning 2-point shot with 10 second left to beat Island East 51-49. The 9th preliminary round will be held at 1pm on 28 April at the Tseung Kwan O Sports Centre. Public is invited to watch the competition at the venue or visit the Association’s website, Facebook Page or the 7th Hong Kong Games designated website (www.hongkonggames.hk) for updated news and results. A double-round robin system is adopted in the preliminary rounds. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals and compete for the Champion.
