The 10^th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (2^nd Phase) Commenced

The 10^th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (2^nd Phase) kicked off with the Opening Ceremony held at the Tianjin Arena today (25 August) at 8pm. The flag bearer, wheelchair basketball athletes CHENG Yan Keung, led the Delegation consisting of representatives from Para athletics and wheelchair basketball team to match in the Arena, which symbolized the official launch of the 8-day Games.

The 80-minutes Opening Ceremony, with “同心同夢、幸福中國” as its theme, featured performers mainly formed by the impaired and university students. Over 6,000 athletes from 35 delegations competes in the Games. Tianjin is also the first city to host the National Games for Persons with Disabilities after the National Games of the People's Republic of China.

Meanwhile, Para swimming and wheelchair basketball which Hong Kong Delegation participated commenced this morning. Wheelchair basketball lost to Liaoning 36-68 in their first pool match. Para swimmers TAM Wai Yau Eisuke and TSE Lok Pin Gideon ranked the 3^rd and 7^th in 2:13.13 and 5:51.81 respectively in Men’s 200m Freestyle S14 and Men’s 400m Freestyle S13 heats and advance to finals. CHOW Wang Kei and CHAN Chu Sing complete the Men’s 100m Freestyle S9 in 12^th and 16^th place with the record of 1:06.15 and 1:30.94 while LAM Bo Yee Bowie ranked 12^th in 1:30.50 in Women’s 100m Freestyle S8, and they stopped in heats.
