Hong Kong Team Secured 17 Slots to Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games has been rescheduled to run from 24 August to 5 September 2021.  Hong Kong Para athletes’ preparation and determination to the Games are not disrupted by the postponement.  By early July, Hong Kong team has sealed the following slots:

Archery
Archer NGAI Ka Chuen clinched a gold in Compound Men's Individual Open at the Continental Qualification Tournament last October and had Hong Kong’s ticket to Tokyo stamped.

Boccia
Boccia team bagged four golds in individual and pairs events of BC3 and BC4 at BISFed 2019 Seoul Boccia Asia-Oceania Championships held in July 2019 to sweep altogether six tickets.  Meanwhile, YEUNG Hiu Lam’s world rankings also guaranteed her BC2 Individual place for Tokyo 2020.

Equestrian
A total of three Hong Kong riders were qualified for the Games in Individual Championship, which is the highest representation in history.

Swimming
With the excellent achievements at international competitions in the qualification period, Hong Kong team gained a total of four Paralympic berths.  Events and participating athletes will be announced in due course.

Table Tennis
Table tennis player NG Mui Wui successfully punched her spot by winning Women’s Singles TT11 title at 2019 ITTF Asian Para Championships.  Her teammate, WONG Ting Ting was also awarded a quota of the same event for being high up in the world rankings.

While the badminton and wheelchair fencing slots are yet to be confirmed due to the extended qualifying periods, Hong Kong team is attempting to earn more spots in athletics, rowing, triathlon and some of the qualified sports.
